a child, the Foundation spearheads programs such as Wendy's Wonderful Kids, which
puts adoption recruiters in all 50 states and Canada to find permanent, loving families
for children in the foster care system, and Adoption-Friendly Workplace, which
encourages employers to offer adoption benefits to their employees. The Foundation

organization dedicated to building peace and international friendships in developing

- Clinical care, and

- READ Foundation -The Reading Excellence and Discovery (READ) Foundation was
established in 1999 to address the high proportion of low-income students
demonstrating below grade level reading skills. READ’s founders sought a research-
based educational approach which would yield measurable results for students and
address reading difficulties before they became barriers to learning. At the same time,
they sought growth opportunities for economically disadvantaged New York City teens.
Several elements proven to have positive effects on students learning were brought
together to create READ programming. These elements include individualized
instruction, cross age tutoring provided by trained peers, phonics instruction and
positive reinforcement. READ employs one-on-one research-based reading instruction
to prepare at-risk children to become proficient readers. READ recruits, trains and
employs teens to teach reading skills to their younger peers who are struggling with
learning to read. READ targets economically disadvantaged students and teens.
- Toys for Tots - The primary goal of Toys for Tots program is to deliver, through a shiny
new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them
to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders; to play
an active role in the development of one of our nation's most valuable natural resources
- our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three
months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to
contribute to improving communities in the future.
